Veterinary Physiotherapy FAQs

What is veterinary physiotherapy?

Veterinary physiotherapy helps animals recover from injuries, manage chronic conditions, and improve mobility using manual therapies, electrotherapies, and tailored exercise plans.

What animals can benefit from physiotherapy?

Dogs, cats, horses, and other animals recovering from injury, surgery, or managing long-term conditions like arthritis can benefit from physiotherapy.

Does my pet need a referral from a vet?

Yes, in the UK, veterinary physiotherapists must work with veterinary consent. If your pet is under ongoing veterinary care, we can liaise directly with your vet to obtain the necessary referral.

What conditions can physiotherapy help with?

Common conditions include arthritis, hip and elbow dysplasia, post-surgical rehabilitation, ligament injuries, and general mobility issues. Physiotherapy can also benefit working and sporting animals.

What happens during a veterinary physiotherapy session?

We begin with an assessment of your pet’s movement and muscle condition, followed by a treatment plan that may include massage, stretching, electrotherapy, or tailored exercises.

How long will it take to see results?

This varies depending on the condition, but many animals show improvements within a few sessions. A full rehabilitation plan will be discussed during your initial consultation.

How can I support my pet’s recovery at home?

Following the prescribed exercise program, maintaining a healthy weight, and ensuring a suitable living environment (e.g., soft bedding, ramps for mobility) can all help support your pet’s progress.

Is veterinary physiotherapy covered by pet insurance?

Many pet insurance policies cover physiotherapy if it is recommended by a vet. Coverage varies depending on the provider and policy, so it’s best to check with your insurer before booking.

My dog is nervous—can they still have physiotherapy?

Yes! We work at your dog’s pace to ensure they feel comfortable and relaxed. Sessions can be adapted with gentle handling, breaks, and positive reinforcement to help build their confidence over time.

How to book?
